ANCON X-35 CONCEPT II X-35C205

  • Free worldwide shipping

The ANCON X-35 CONCEPT II X-35C205 is a high tech watch with a very nicely shaped case. The movement, the Miyota 82S7, has several functions: at 5 o'clock you'll find a small seconds hand, at 7 an open heart in the dial and at 9 a day/night indicator. The case has a strong PVD coating, which will not wear off easily.

The X-35 is a very cool, durable watch that offers great value for money.

PRETTY NEAR PERFECT FOR A LIGHT CASUAL SPORT WATCH

the price alone on this piece makes it a must buy.

the only drawbacks i found was the lack of even a lume dot o the racheting unidirectional bezel, and rather mediocre lume on the dial and hands. given that this is allegedly a daytime sailing watch, i guess that's Spinnaker's out, though i wish the lume was brighter for sure, and a lume dot provided.

aside from that it's all thumbs up for a piece with wonderful color combos (i love the orange and bought that one). the rugged plastic case, push-pull crown and snap back caseback are all fine since this is anything but a dive watch, but rather a surface sport watch designed for what the company's name suggests, sailing.

the nylon straps are comfie, especially with the light weight of the watch itself, and super sporty. i love domed crystals so to get a domed mineral crystal at this price point is a treat.

as for the movement, any time you can get a Seiko NH35 in a watch at this price point, BUY iT! this is not a throw away watch as the snapback has a notch that can open the case using any nylon computer case tool, allowing you to even regulate the movement yourself if brave enough, using the +/- lever.

i own mostly expensive, and not so expensive, Swiss and Japanese auto divers rated to 200m, basically serious to somewhat serious divers. i craved a delightful sporty piece with a timer bezel, and when i saw this piece, had to have it.

at this price you cannot go wrong. if you crave lume you can always replace the hands from NH35 hands on ebay, and either put a lumed pip dot o with a dab of superglue, or use a toothpick to put a drop of water resistant lume on the bezel triangle marker.

whatever the case (pun), this is a fun watch to own at a super price.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

60s/70s dive watch cases from which this piece is very reliably patterned, were exceptional. the seiko CMAS diver was actually only one of many many companies putting their dive watches in these type cases. little did they know 50-60 years later the future would be entranced once again by that design.

which brings us to the Nethuns scuba500, one of the most beautiful and authentic renditions of this CMAS design. there are a few nods to the future we live in which remove it from pure retro accuracy. one is the case size, which given today's tastes, is completely acceptable. 41mm with another 4 or 5 for the crown is actually wonderful.

another nod to the 'now' was to change the proportions more than i'd prefer, since i'm a vintage junkie, but it's not disturbing enough to keep me from having purchased this exceptional piece. i'm talking about the case thickness, which is chunkier than any one of these style cases ever came in. however, the reasons for Nethuns doing that are clear...no CMAS style case of the 60s/70s ever had a 500m depth capacity. as did few other divers then.

so the chunk can certainly be forgiven, but in fact may not be such so egregious since many other squarish divers of the 60s/70s were quite this chunky, turning this CMAS style into a bit of a retro hybrid.

the thick raised sapphire crystal, which is rare in even retro watches, was a killer addition. there's been some poor feedback on using a Rolex style dial and markers on a very anti-Rolex homage, which i understand.to deal with that i opted for the Breitling style dial and hands...superbly done as is absolutely every detail and construction on this watch.

the dial lume and lumed ceramic bezel are superb. as is the buttery smooth and precise 120click bezel. my only sadness is that my piece is 17 sec/day. i don't know if these excellent NH35 Seiko movements are regulated by Nethuns but, unfortunately, mine wasn't.

other than that, i do love it.
